The metamorphosis in art: Apolo and Dafne

Here's one of the best metamorphosis examples in art: Apolo and Dafne, a Bernini's baroque sculture that shows us the precise moment of Dafne's transformation in a tree.
The 2nd course students have been working on it in the subject of history of art.

The myth was written by Ovid in his Metamorphosis: he told that Cupid threw a love arrow to Apolo, so that he loved Dafne. But Cupid threw a hate arrow to Dafne, so she hated so much the boy.
When Apolo followed his loved Dafne, she prayed to the gods to become a tree. And that's the moment that the sculture tries to represent.

Antigona/Antigone.

What's in a name?

In the Anouilh version, the Prologue says that we know from the start that she's meant to die and that it's always the same in a tragedy : you know that characters are in the hands of their own fate. Everything goes like a well-oiled machine.
Here are a few adaptations of the myth written by Sophocles , in 441 BC. Changing the scenery, the time but yet ever remaining faithful to the theme of determination and unwilligness to compromise whatever. Great tragedies never go out of style since their message is universal.

Human Footprint

Food For Thought.

Our pupils are currently working (both in Art and English) on the idea of prints in any forms , fingerprints, footprints, ecological footprints. That theme is related to the study of environmental issues andthe way artists can respond to the challenge of an ever changing world.
Since the world around us demands that we reduce our carbone footprint, we may wonder about our own trail on the ground, literally .
The thing is, up to what point?
What will become of us if we keep on red
ucing our footprints, in other words reducing up to ground zero, does that mean eventually ..disappear?
A tricky and even philosophical question
....And some answers :

Our pupils will have to create a production symbolizing the theme and we'll put it online.

Hello!
I've added our Collège Site,in fact, it's part of the Campus lycée -collège but the link is easier to use this way. Moreover I' ve inserted a Comenius page . You can get to it by using the page "les projets 2009-2010", third rubrik . Our site isn't always easy to use, even for us , so a few comments are always for the best:)
